To clarify, I am comparing the free versions of these two sites. If you pay for them, then your opinions may differ from mine.

First, what are they?

Both aid you in your writing, by finding grammar mistakes, spelling and offering you alternative ways to write the same sentence. A useful tool if you need documents checked for work, school or if you are an author or journalist.

They both work in slightly different ways and both have pros and cons.

Lets start with ProWritingAid;

Pro - It finds so many grammar mistakes and offers a lot of different ways to write a sentence. It even finds passive words or sentences.

Pro - Colour-coded mistakes. Different colours mean different things, which can be useful when you're scanning over a piece of work.

Con- You have to input your work into their webpage and then edit it on there. Which then means you have to either copy and paste it out onto your original document, or change both as you go. This can be time consuming.

Now for Grammarly;

Pro - It can correct on any document open on your computer screen. This includes Facebook statuses. No copy and paste needed here.

Con - I find Grammarly does not pick up on as many errors and offers fewer help/ideas for how to improve your document better.

This being said, I honestly use both. I leave Grammarly open to correct as I go and use ProWritingAid when the document is finished for a final edit through. See what works best for you and your style.
