Should you write that book?

There are many reasons to write a book. So today I will go through the five most common reasons, and whether it is a good enough excuse to write or not.

Disclaimer: These views are my personal opinions and if you're in a category where I wouldn't write that book but you still really want to, then do it.

Reason No 1: You love reading. :)

If you love reading and you have a story idea you want to try out, then yes, write that book. Writing a book is a lot of work but if you want to see your words written on paper, then make the time and go for it.

You might think your idea isn't good enough, or that your writing voice isn't toned up. But who cares? You want to write that book, right? And practice makes perfect. Write as many books as you want. You'll only get better over time and it might lead to something amazing.

No 2: No-ones wrote what you want to read. :)

Definitely write that book. If you've been searching for a specific book, your whole life and have still yet to find it. Then the chances are that you need to be the person to create that masterpiece. And, you're probably not the only one searching for it. Help your fellow readers out and write that book!

You've got nothing to lose and your much-wanted world may become someone else's dream read.

No 3: You want someone to make your book into a film. :(

Perhaps you're looking into the wrong field of work? The likely hood of a book being turned into a film is very slim and if this is your motivation to write then you may face disappointment. Which may lead to you giving up on your book or giving up writing altogether.

If you want your story to become a movie, it is perhaps better to become a scriptwriter. This way you can work your way into the field and sell your work onto a TV or film company. It's also highly likely, that they will turn your work into a film. Whether in a cinema, TV or computer screen is up to you.

No 4: You want to be a famous writer. :(

This is also not excessively likely. If you think about the number of books written every year and the few handfuls who become household names? There is a very slim chance of becoming that famous.

However, this is not a definite no to writing a book. It's okay to have big dreams and hopes for your work. But make sure you have another smaller motivation for writing which is more achievable. That way, no matter what happens, you will always be happy and proud of yourself, whilst striving to do your best work.

No 5: You want to see your words in a physical book. :)

Write it. Even if your book is only read by family and friends. You will have a physical copy of your book baby to be proud of and what could be nicer than having your own name on your bookshelf? With a cover you like and a world you created.

And those are my 5 top reasons people have given me for writing a book.

If I haven't mentioned the reason, you're writing your book then please comment and let me know why you're writing.

Remember, everything here is my own opinion. If you truly want to write a book, then go for it. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain.

The key to continuing your writing journey and making sure you finish that book is to have small, regular and achievable goals. No matter what your end target is. Give yourself the best chance of completing your work.

Happy writing everyone!
