Have a Bookish Christmas

Running out of ideas for what to give your book loving friends for christmas?
Or just looking for ways to make your reading more festive?
Here's some of my Bookish Christmas plans :)
1. Lets learn from Iceland

Iceland has a wonderful yearly tradition of giving books as a gift every Christmas Eve. Then everyone spends the night before Christmas curled up reading. Perfect for the introvert who needs to recharge ready for the social overflow of Christmas day.
This bookish tradition is so engrained in Icelandic society that Kristan B. Johasson, president of Iceland's publishing Association, calls it "the backbone of the publishing industry."
Every year a free catalogue is posted to everyones home with the latest releases. Partly due to this, Iceland has the largest number of writers, books published and books read per head than anywhere else in the world.
I definitely want in on this tradition!
2. Bookish Advent

We all love advent calendars. Who doesn't like getting a little gift everyday? Whether it's chocolate or a charitable gift, who knows?
But what about making it more book orientated?
Why not make an advent calendar of bookish goodies for your writer friend?
This could include short stories to read, stationary, writing prompts or exercises. Even a challenge!
Which brings me to my next tip.
3. Challenge Accepted

As a writer, why not challenge yourself to write a new short story a day? This could be anything from 45 words - 5000. This will not only allow you to practise your skills as a writer, but also possibly, give you some great material for a new book or just a compilation of short stories to give to your cherished readers.
4. Lets get Artsy

How about making something book worthy? Book marks are always a great choice!
Or what about just things that book lovers might also like?
Home made candles? Favourite books diary? Protective book covers or some bookish tea! (We loves tea.)

5. How about a genre change?

We are all guilty of getting stuck reading the same genres. (I love Fantasy, I can't help it!)
So how about trying something different this Christmas?
If you love fantasy, read a historic novel, crime mystery or a romance.
If you love romance why not try a drama or comedy?
Close your eyes and pick at random! Worst outcome is after Christmas you go back to your favourite genre :)
6. Donate

My final tip is to try donating. Why not donate some old books to your local library or Oxfam shop? (Even new books if you're feeling extra nice!)
You can donate to an orphanage or school and get those young minds into the books you love. After all, they're going to be working with you some day.
Have a great Bookish Christmas everyone! :D
