Please read my previous post on, 'What causes Writer's block,' in my Authors life section, before reading this blog, as I will be referencing back to the previous post.

We've discussed what can cause writer's block and the different seriousness levels of each cause. But what are a few things you can do if you just have the average Writer's block? Caused by being stuck, stressed, over worked, etc.

Here are a few tips that work for me and others I know, but always remember, it won't work for everyone. We're all different and things that I enjoy you might not. Make sure you cater everything here to what you like to do and what relaxes you personally.

No. 1 - Go for a walk

Sometimes all you need to clear your head and get those ideas flowing is to go for a walk. This can be on a beach, in a wood, around a lake. You could go alone, in a group or with your pet.

Go outside and clear those cobwebs. If this doesn't help, at least you got some sun and light exercise for the day.

No. 2 - Take a bath or shower.

Who's guilty of sometimes forgetting to take a long shower or bath when you're working hard? I definitely am.

I love bubble baths and sometimes just taking a relaxing bath and mulling over some ideas or just enjoying the water can really help me to loosen up, relax and get those ideas flowing again. You could also have a long shower and just stand with the water cascading down upon you.

This can also help wake you up if you've hit a lull in your day and are starting to feel tired.

No. 3- Read a book

This could be fiction or non fiction. It's your choice. You could go to a cafe and get your favourite drink or sit at home on the comfiest sofa.

Regular reading can definitely help boost your creativity and drive to write. I always aim to read a full book every two weeks, at minimum, to keep myself in the zone. It's also good for helping you sleep at night, or a relaxing way to wake up in the morning.

No. 4 - Talk your ideas through with someone.

Go and see a fellow writer, perhaps take some work with you to mull over together, or just enjoy each others company. Talking through your plot can sometimes open doors that thinking about it couldn't. It's also good to socialise once in a while, I know, you have to get dressed and leave the house, but it's good for you. Do it sometimes.

Then give plenty of time for recharge, (in my case ha ha.)

No. 5 - Give yourself achievable goals.

Please look back at my 'Design by lyons review' post to read more about this wonderful goals calendar.

Making small, and regular, achievable goals for yourself can make you feel a lot better about your progress and help to keep you moving. This calendar involves receiving stickers for finishing a goal and it works wonders. I can see at a glance if i've been neglecting something and need to reorganise my days, or if i've been over working.

Perfect!

And finally...

No. 6 - Authortubes

These are pictures of three author tubes I have watched in their entirety.

Sometimes it helps to break up your writing sessions. I like to write for 50mins- 1hour, then, watch an authortube video, and repeat the process. This helps me to keep my creativity flowing and gives me new ideas and things to think about as I write.

These are 6 things that work to stop my own writer's block. Give any that appeal to you a try but remember, everyone is different. Perhaps you'd prefer to play a computer game for an hour, maybe do some intense exercise, have a smoothie or coffee. Try out different things and see what works for you.

But remember, these should help you write again, not distract you ;)
