Designs by Lyons is a wonderful new Canadian company created by artist Sarah Lyons.

As well as creating lovely items such as: the snake heater (an awesome heated scarf), album covers and digital art, Sarah makes wonderful goal calendars. Luckily for me she is lovely enough to send me one to try.

The calendar is designed to help you create and accomplish achievable goals throughout the year, such as; walk to work, zero spend or work to complete. It is your choice.

The picture above shows everything you get as a kit when you buy the calendar, but I'm going to break it down bit by bit.

When you first get your calendar it arrives neatly packaged with directions printed upon the front. You can get many different designs for the calendar. Mine is the patchwork design which is full of lovely colours patched together. But you can also get calendars in tartan, blue, weather systems, and others, so there'll be a design that suits you.

Inside the pack you get a full sized calendar, an information help sheet, a goal builder and your stickers of many colours.

The information sheet gives you advice on how to make achievable goals and also a few inspirational quotes. It's a good and easy read so make sure you take a look at it before stepping into your new calendar's life.

Your many coloured stickers.

You can choose how you use them. You can go bright and vivid or more toned down and gentle. You can match the colours to your calendar background or go for a colour which you think suits the task it is linked with.

Again this is all your choice. The calendar is a tool and it is upto you how you use it.

The goal builder.

Now it's time to get thinking. What do you want to achieve? And how are you going to do it?

Sarah's information sheet will help a great deal with this. She talks of setting realistic, achievable goals that you can do regularly and not huge changes which you're probably not going to do. It is also suggested to put boundaries on these goals.

The goal builder is very simple. You place a sticker in the left top box, title of your goal, extended title and then below you write the details.

Above is a snippet of my own goals. Under Yoga I have specified that I must do the task for 30+ minutes to earn a sticker. This is realistic and makes it impossible for me to congratulate myself on any less then 30 minutes. I have repeated this technique for music practise.

For my writing goal I have got to either write or edit a short story or chapter. Again achievable and Quantifiable.

You can pin this on your wall, keep it at your desk or in your draw as long as it is available for you to check against when needed.

Next, the calendar.

The calendar shows every day of the month and does not allow you to hide when you have a bad month, week or even day. Genius! You're held accountable and therefore are less likely to not succeed.

Sundays are coloured making it easy at a glance to know what day of the week it is and to perhaps forgive yourself and have a rest day ;)

Along the bottom of this calendar are boxes to write your goals and place it's chosen sticker beside it.

(I didn't get my calendar till half way through the year so forgive the folding. It was too depressing having nothing filled in but it wasn't my fault!)

And so, you have a goal calendar. The more you do the more colourful and beautiful it gets.

Another suggestion from Sarah is to give each sticker colour a row on your calendar, this way you can really easily see what you're missing most often and work out how to change it.

Review

I love my calendar. It makes it easier for me to see what I have been neglecting and to up my game, or what I should do slightly less of in order to make time for the other things.

It's very simple, affordable and can really help you achieve something!

I would recommend the calendar to anyone looking to just improve their life or people struggling through depression or anxiety to help give reasonable goals and a great way to see your achievements.
